I’m confused

All of a sudden my files are "unsupported or corrupt"

I had used a trial version of Twonky to stream .avi files onto my tv via by sony BDP-8390 blurtay player and had no problems with this at all. Now i have updated the trial version I am unable to open any of these files that I have or other files that I have made (iMovies etc) The message pops up "the file is not supported or corrupt) is someone able to help me with this? (Pleeeeaaaaaaaaase) :)

  • I have the same issue with Twonnky 6.0.39 and a Sony BDP-S790.

The Twonky's "Sony Blu-Ray players" profile doesn't work with the lastest Sony's firmware : the player doesn't play MP4 files anymore with this profile.

I tried others Sony's profiles in Twonky 6.0, but they failed too :(

This issue has been found in others forums too. With some UPnP servers (Serviio), the "Sony Bravia 2012" profile fixes the ussue.

I hope Twonky will update the profiles (for Twonky 6 and 7).

    Thank you

  • Hello,

In order to check the client profile you can follow these steps:

    1) Open the web browser and paste the following in the address bar:

http://127.0.0.1:9001/#sharing replace 127.0.0.1 by the IP address of the device on which Twonky Server is installed.

    2) Click on show in front of the media receivers and go through the list of devices to check the client profile associated with your device.

  • Hello,

Unfortunately, my Twonky server (6.0.39) does not reply to http://127.0.0.1:9001/#sharing (displays : page not found) nor to http://127.0.0.1:9000/#sharing (displays Twonky server start page).

But in the configuration page (http:///127.0.0.1:9000/config), in the Media Receivers page, Twonky automaticaly selects "Sony Blu-Ray players"+ "Advanced Media View" for my Sony blu-ray player.
The player is a Sony BDP-S790.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I went ahead and checked the specifications of your Blu Ray Player and found that SONY BDP S790 supports the following file formats over the DLNA profile:

The reason Serviio might be able to play is that it uses trans coding, which converts the file into a supported format.

In this case i can suggest you two ways to tackle this situation:

    1) You can convert the files into a compatible format using a video converter.

    2) You can enable trans coding in Twonky. To know how to enable it, you can refer to the already existing threads on how to enable trans coding in Twonky Server v 6.0.39 where detailed steps have been given.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.
But last Sony's players (BDP-S790, BDP-S490,...) read more video file format without transcoding.

In the beginning of thing topic I wrote that before the last firmware upgrade of the player, all MP4 files worked great with Twonky without transcoding and with Sony Bluray players profile.

After the firmware upgrade the Sony Bluray players profile doesn't work anymore, but profiles such as "Generic DLNA Client" or "Xtreamer Player" profiles works quite perfectly for the Sony Players without transcoding.

Note : Transcoding is disabled on my Serviio server. Servivio streams without transcoding to my BDP-S790 with profile "Bravia 2012".
For my BDP-S790, Serviio's "Bravia 2012" is better than Twonky's "Generic DNLA Client", because it allows Fast Forward and Fast Rewind, in more MP4 files.

I have just run Device Spy from Devoloppers tools for UPnP on my BDP-S790 (with the last Sony's official firmawre).
