I’m wishing I had other options to beam to my Roku

Trying to BEAM to Roku from PC, says I need a TV or Media Player Connected to the Network

It found the network, says I have the proper software, but can't find a "TV or other media player connected to your network to BEAM" when I try to click the "Learn about Beam compatible TV's and Media Players..." link, it just gets a 404 error. I have loaded the Twonky channel on Roku and created an account. What am I missing??

  • Thank you for your interest in Twonky.

By using Twonky app on Roku device you can view your personalized Twonky channels, playlists, and bookmarks, of your mytwonky.com online account by linking the Twonky app to your Twonky portal account.

Refer below link to link Twonky app to your Twonky portal account.

As you want to beam the local content of your Laptop to Roku device. For that you can use Twonky beam on your android phone to beam content from Twonky library on your laptop to Roku player. You can access the local content and content shared wit Twonky server libraries on Twonky Beam using below steps:

    1) Open Twonky Beam home page.

    2) Tap home button on right upper corner of Twonky Beam home page.

It will show you the list of Twonky server libraries on the same network and the library of that device as well.

  • Thank you Navdeep,

I was trying to stream video content from an online source (like a youtube video) from my laptop to the Roku. Not necessarily local content from a library.

Does your suggestion hold true for getting that to BEAM also, or should I try something else?

  • You can access the YouTube videos on Twonky app for Roku.

  • I’m curious
So does this mean you can't stream files directly from a regular computer via the web interface (i.e. http://my.twonky.com/video), even if it's linked to your video stream?

I don't have the space on my iPhone or iPad for the videos, and was hoping to just use my Mac to do it, but I'm having the same problem as jwalser.

  • You can Beam online content and content shared with Twonky server from mytwonky.com to Roku device using beam button on mytwonky.com.

    • Hi, I tried this on my mytwonky.com from my lenovo laptop but I was asked to check my media set-up. It showed that the network connection is OK, and twonky software is installed, but there was an error sign for the media player.

Actually, I have already successfully beamed the youtube content from my iphone app to the TV thru roku player.

How can I let my PC to recognize the roku media player? I can't find the help info from the website to solve this.

      Thanks,
      SH
    • Thanks for your interest in Twonky.

I would suggest you to check by reset the internet browser which you ware using. If still issue persists then you can check by changing the internet browser.

Please try the suggested steps and let me know your observation.

However, You can beam the local content of your Laptop to Roku device using Twonky beam on your smart phone, to beam content from Twonky library on your laptop to Roku player. You can access the content shared with Twonky server libraries on your laptop to Twonky Beam using below steps:

      1) Open Twonky Beam home page.

      2) Tap home button on right upper corner of Twonky Beam home page.

It will show you the list of Twonky server libraries on the same network and the library of that device as well.

Hopefully it will help you to fix this issue.

  • I’m sad
Navdeep, I guess you havent got it correctly.
What you are showing is when you have videos saved in your library on your PC which you can beam to Roku, everyone understands that.
But the people asking here, let say I go to one website on my PC like Megashare.net or something like that, and I am seeing a video stream there, can I able to stream that video from my PC to Roku.
I guess at this moment the answer is no, because you dont see any Beam button on those websites.
Also, we would like to know is there a way to add that website to twonky bookmarks?
If we cant beam any stream from internet then the content sharing on twonky website is quite misleading.
    • I apologize for the inconvenience, However in my first reply of this post I mentioned that, "By using Twonky app on Roku device you can view your personalized Twonky channels, playlists, and bookmarks, of your mytwonky.com online account by linking the Twonky app to your Twonky portal account. "

And with mytwonky.com you can link your YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and Picasa Web accounts only. You can beam online content from other websites to Roku device using Twonky Beam application on your smart phone, but that is also limited to the list of websites on home page of Twonky Beam.

  • I have the exact same problem. I can beam from my Android OK. But when I attempt to beam from my PC, the same thing happens to me as "jwalser". It shows that the network connection is OK, and twonky software is installed, but there is an error sign for the media player. When I click on the error link, all I get is a '404' error.

Changing browsers doesn't help. I get the same results from Chrome, Firefox, and IE9.

  • I am having the same thing happen. I can stream perfectly from my smart phone or add a video to my youtube favorites and access it through the Twonky channel on my roku, but when I am browsing the Twonky video section, and I click the "Beam" button the same thing happens to me - network connection and software are working but the media player is not being found. I also use PlayON and other network players, and they recognize my Roku with no problem. Hopefully some one will resolve this!

  • Same thing is happening to me when I try to beam a video from my PC (Vista - using Google Chrome) to my Roku which works fine when I use the Twonky app from my android. On PC it says network connection and software is fine, but not media player.
It seems that there should be a solution when one clicks on the link under that, but it goes to a page that says 404 error. Is this a dead link that the Twonky people need to fix?

  • This is on my.twonky.com:
"As of 4/2/2013, my.twonky.com is no longer active. We appreciate your support of the site, and we recommend that you use our application Twonky Beam (Android, iOS) to find and discover great video content from around the web and beam it to your connected devices (Apple TV, Roku, Xbox, AT&T U-Verse, DLNA). You can also use the latest Twonky Server to configure your Online Feeds for beaming and playing content in your connected home."

So...can I play from my laptop to Roku? Running Windows 7. I'd like to try the product before purchasing, and looks like I'm on a free trial, but no idea how to make it happen.

  • You can beam content on Roku device using Twonky Server beam check option.

Kindly refer the below pictures to use inbuilt beam option in latest version of Twonky Server 7.2.1

Use beam button to beam content on DLNA devices connected in the same network.

Then select device on which you want to beam the content.

    Hopefully it will help you.

  • Pretty much feel like I just got ripped off for $20. Should have gone for the 30 day trial, but the Twonky website misled me into believing I could stream Youtube from my PC to Roku in much the same fashion and ease as I do with Twonky Beam on my Android.

Lots of dead links or links that lead to obsolete info in this group as well. After countless attempts and hours of searching I can't get Twonky Server IU to display Roku as a player/device to send anything to even though it does show up on the settings help page as a recognized device. I obviously have the Twonky channel on my Roku but nada as far as getting anything to it from my PC.

With any luck I can cancel this transaction and get my money back. Support here is non-existent and even the most seasoned users here seem to grope for answers that never come.
