Twonky Beam to Roku requires Twonky channel to be installed on Roku?

I just installed the newest update to Twonky Beam, 3.3.0

What's New in Version 3.3.0 


• Beam to Xbox 360 (with “PlayTo” enabled).

• Beam to Roku streaming player (requires Twonky channel to be installed on Roku).

• This version of Twonky Beam supports DTCP-IP streaming from recorders. Move and copy are not supported.

 - Supported recorders: BDZ-EX3000, BDZ-ET2000, BDZ-ET1000, BDZ-AX2700T, BDZ-AT970T, BDZ-AT950W, BDZ-SKP75, and BDZ-AT770T.

 - NOTE 1: Twonky Beam needs to have permission to access photos in privacy settings to start DTCP-IP playback on iOS6 and above.

 - NOTE 2: Due to device capability, DTCP-IP streaming user experience is not as good on iPod Touch, iPad (first generation), and iPhone4.


and noticed this from the whats new 



• Beam to Roku streaming player (requires Twonky channel to be installed on Roku).


I wasnt aware of a Twonky channel for the Roku
and so I went looking, but was unable to find one, on the roku site

Is there a channel that one has to manually add somewhere else?
(as some channels you have to do this, but need to know a code to do it)

Or is it that the channel has not been released yet?

    Hello,

    I don't have updated info available regarding release of Twonky channel for the Roku devices. I'll inquire about channel release status and will let you know.

    You can follow the below given steps to install Twonky Channel on your Roku device:

    1.Access the following link from a PC-based or mobile browser:

    2. If you are not already logged into your Roku owner's account, you will be asked to enter the account credentials, or to create a new account if you don't have one yet.

    3. When asked, acknowledge that you want to install the app on your Roku box.
    4. On your Roku box, enter the Channel Store app, then exit it. You should see a "Checking for updates..." message followed by a message indicating that the Twonky app is being installed.
    5. Check the end of your app carousel. You should see the Twonky icon.

    To view your personalized Twonky channels, playlists, and bookmarks, link the app to your Twonky portal account like this:

    1. Run the app and click the "About Channel" icon from the first screen.
    2. Choose "Connect MyTwonky Account" from the next screen.
    3. If you are not already logged into your Twonky portal account, enter your portal credentials when asked.
    4. You should see a web page asking you to enter an activation code. Enter the code that was displayed on the Roku screen. Hit submit.
    5. If the operation was successful, the Roku app should shortly recognize it and show an informational message to that effect. You can also click "Done" to force an immediate check of account link status.
    6. Once linked, you should see additional top level carousel items like "My Channels", "My Playlists", and "My Bookmarks"
    7. If you wish to disassociate your portal account from the device, go back to the "About Channel" screen and choose "Disconnect MyTwonky Account".

    I thought that it was interesting that since installing the Twonky Channel on the Roku
    The Roku is showing up as a Play To capable client on the network





    But it appears to be only beamable from the Twonky Beam App
    and not the myTwonky web portal or using the Microsoft PlayTo



    I only point this out, so that others, hopefully wont confuse the two beaming options

    I went to do some testing with the Roku App



    And had to do a firmware update on the Roku to version 3.1 Build 1027



    After the device rebooted, the Twonky channel no longer worked



    I tried a reboot again, but that didnt help
    So I went to the channel store on the Roku, and removed the Twonky Channel



    I then re-added it back





    And all was well again



    What happened, who knows, but thats what I did to get it working again

    Looks like I spoke to soon



    It is worth noting, that even though you get the above
    It is still possible to Beam to with Twonky Beam, which is odd

    I'll try the process again, and not use the Roku App at all
    to see if it is the culprit

    Well that didnt work out this time

    I get a new message this time



    Also, Inoticed that it s no longer being seen as a known Media Device
    and is being shown under Other Devices
    not sure if it is relative or not

    You have to have the app running on the pc on for the roku channel to work.

    As you had deleted the Twonky Channel from Roku manually so you might have to follow the steps of registration again.
    The Roku device creates a Roku Username and password in order to register itself with the MediaFusion Server. Enter the credentials for Roku account. Once the user id has been successfully created, the Roku User can associate itself to the portal.

    Roku Device Registration is code based style of registration. This type of registration presents the user with a simple on-screen code during setup. This code is then entered into the Portal website to establish a linkage between the device and the user account. Once the device detects that registration is complete, it displays a congratulations screen and allows the user access to the service.

    I can't get anything to "Beam" to my Roku. Got the app on my android phone, got the app on my Roku and linked to my Twonky account, checked to make sure all software on Roku was up to date, it is BTW. Go to Beam on phone, pick any of the videos that Beam gives me from Youtube, Ted, etc, and click beam, select my Roku from the list, and will either just get "Beaming" and nothing more, or get an error that it's unable to beam cause unsupported format or some other error. One time, clicked beam on a Funny or Die video, phone said Beaming, never showed on Roku, five minutes later it started to play on phone, but still not on Roku. I know it's not connection speed, I can play the same video on my PC at 1080p with no lag.
