HD to dsm520

Postby dordar » Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:08 am

I have searched and tried for 2 weeks now.

I have some .mkv movies in HD, and WMV9 HD (from windows).

But my dsm-520 doesn't play that movies. i have tried to convert it in different coder with any sucess.

can anyone please tell me how to get hd movies on the dsm 520?

thanks.

This how I've done it. I use NERO 8 (Nero Vsision) to create an HD DVD video. I select the native resolution of my HDTV (1920x1080i), MPEG-2 compression with a bit rate around 20 Mbit/s, and select to save the MPG file to the hard disk. Then I transfer it to my server running Twonkyvision v4.4 (Buffalo Linkstation II - MIPS) connected via Ethernet 100Mb/s to my router. My DSM-520 is also connected via wired Ethernet to the router. So far, I have created several HD photo slide shows using Nero Vision and they display flawlessly on my DSM-520, filling up the screen. This is actually a work-around for a problem in the current firmware (1.05) for the DSM-520 that somehow doesn't display a picture rescaled to 1920x1080 full screen.

The only limitation that I know for the DSM-520 is that it is limited to 25 Mbit/s for MPEG-2 videos. I have also been successful to play MPEG/VOB video files larger than 4GB with no problems.

Cheers,
Sergio

HD streaming is my big hobby last few months. It started after finding HD movies ib WMV HD format from Microsoft HS showcase. For some reason they play, but no voice.

in PAL and NTSC I play usually uncompressed VOB files, ripped fdirectly from the DVD-s.

In HD format I downlod stuff from torrents:
- TS files. TS is the format used to broadcast high-definition TV, MPEG-2 Trasport Stream. You can play TS files on your D-Link with no conversion.
- MPG movie files in HD format (MPEG-4), also no conversion
- Matroska files - this is multimedia container, not supported by D-link directly. You have to convert it with Nero or other conversion software.
- RAR files -- You need to unpack them and only then You know whats next.

I play both 720p and 1080p on my 1080i plasma and it looks great. For example Victoria secrets Show 2005, 2006 and 2007 are all available and pin-sharp in .TS format.

Use MediaCoder to convert MKV to MPEG2 with following parameters:

Video Tab
Mode: Quality-based 100%
Format: MPEG2
Container: MPEG2
Source: Autoselect
Backend: Autoselect
Copy Video: UNSELECTED

Audio Tab
Source: Autoselect
Encoder: Lame MP3
Resample: Original
Channel: Original
Enable Audio: Selected
Copy Audio: UNSELECTED
Gain 0dB
Audio ID: 0

Lame MP3 tab
Rate mode VBR
Channel Auto
Bitrate/Quality: 8
Algorithm Quality: 1

It works for me and I spent many days to find working parameters.

prøver å gjøre dette men får bare:

No file is outputed.

Og blir dette i HD kvalitet??

Har lastet ned victoria secret i TS, men det fungerte heller ikke..

MÃ¥ si jeg er ganske skuffet over denne dsm 520..

Og ikke minste musikkspilleren, den suger skikkelig.

OMG, this was norwegian, sorry.

Translated: trying to to this but i'm only getting:
No File is outputed.
And does this inputs give me HD quality?

I have gotten victoria secret i TS, but my dsm 520 cannot play the file.

And the musicplayer is lousy, any tips to make it better?

My DSM520 plays .TS Victoria Secret show. Please check that Client setting is correct in Twonky server. If DSM is treated as general streamer, it won't play HD. I experienced samree problem. You should reset clieent table and restart everything.
